After a season that saw the 35-year-old franchise quarterback break his collarbone twice, and his backups go 1-11 in his absence, many have come to expect the Dallas Cowboys to go into the draft looking for a quarterback.
But not necessarily, according to offensive coordinator Scott Linehan.
Speaking from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL this week, Linehan told Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the team isn’t approaching the draft in terms of needs—which would suggest the classic best-player-available strategy—and they're pretty happy with the quarterbacks they have on the roster now.
“Well, our focus isn’t on what our needs are. We are evaluating last year, and it’s unfortunate Tony caught the injury bug,” Linehan said. “But we’re anticipating him back, full recovery and ready to go. And I was really excited for the way Kellen [Moore] was able to come in and play in his last couple of games. So we’re excited about the guys we’ve got. We’re always going to be looking at every position, including quarterback, and we’re real, real early in the evaluation prospects of that.”
