Lewis Needing a Nice Rebound Start

Last year when Colby Lewis allowed 13 runs in less than three innings of work against the Los Angeles Angels, he was written off for dead by several folks.

After that, Lewis went on to carry the Rangers' starting staff over the second half of the 2014 season and completely turned around his performance from the first half.

Now, the Rangers hope a similar turnaround is in order after he gave up 10 runs in 2 2/3 innings in Cleveland last week. Lewis takes the mound again on Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox and rebound from not only that awful outing against the Indians, but also the two subpar ones before that.

Including that 10-run debacle, Lewis has now allowed 21 runs on 26 hits in his last three starts — spanning just 14 1/3 innings. Before that, Lewis was pretty great. He had a 2.61 ERA over his first six starts of the season and had gone at least six innings in four of those.

It seemed Lewis was going to help carry a young, inexperienced staff awaiting the return of guys like Derek Holland, Martin Perez and maybe even Matt Harrison until reinforcements arrived, and now you have to be wondering if Lewis will be one of the odd men out when those guys start coming back.

Of course, last time Lewis was written off, he responded in a big way. The Rangers hope he can do the same this time, and it begins Tuesday night.
