The Texas Rangers are still hoping veteran righty Colby Lewis can prove he can be a part of the starting rotation in 2015 since his turnaround from a slow start to the season.
On Friday night, they'll get another look at the guy who is still probably considered the Rangers' best postseason pitcher in club history. Lewis will face a red-hot Kansas City Royals team that has an equally hot lineup thanks to guys like Alex Gordon, the super-toolsy outfielder who seems to finally be living up to his years of potential. The Royals have also gotten a boost from the awakening of the slumbering Billy Butler and by the recent post-deadline acquisition of Josh Willingham.
Lewis will look to continue a nice run as of late, as long as he isn't facing the Los Angeles Angels. Good thing for Lewis on Friday, he's not.
After a really rough start to the season when it seemed like the Rangers were very close to just leaving Lewis to pasture, he's turned things around by putting up a 2.66 ERA in his last 44 1/3 innings against anyone other than the Halos. Against the Angels over that time, Lewis has a 14.81 ERA in two starts.
The Rangers are wanting to see Lewis finish the season on a strong note, and Friday's start against someone other than the Angels could go a long way toward that.
