Kiper: Top DBs May Be Gone By Dallas' Pick

Jerry Jones doesn’t believe the Dallas Cowboys need to select a cornerback with the ninth overall pick in next April’s NFL Draft; aside from Mike Jenkins, Terence Newman and Orlando Scandrick, there aren’t many who would agree with him, of course, and this group includes draft shaman Mel Kiper of ESPN.

In his first mock draft, Kiper had the Cowboys taking Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara with their first round selection. Now, however, Kiper is having doubts as to whether Amukamara will slide that far--meaning that the two defensive backs worthy of the ninth overall pick, Amukamara and LSU’s Patrick Peterson (projected to go in the top five)--will be gone.

"I can't see (Amukamara) getting past Dallas,” Kiper said in a conference call recently, per the Dallas Morning News.

"Now, surprises happen every draft, and you never say never, but right now, I had a tough time getting him down to Dallas. I didn't even feel great about pushing him down to Dallas. I thought about even giving him to a couple teams earlier. San Francisco (at No. 7) could go corner, maybe somebody could trade up and get him.”
