Kellen Moore Promoted to Cowboys Active Roster

Moore will likely back up Brandon Weeden against the Falcons on Sunday

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett confirmed to the media Wednesday that Kellen Moore will be promoted to the active roster as part of the shuffling going on in the wake of the Tony Romo injury.

That will happen,” Garrett said, per the team’s official website, “but I don’t know if it’s official.”

In all likelihood, Moore will back up Brandon Weeden on Sunday. The Cowboys traded for Matt Cassel on Tuesday, but we’d imagine that’s too late to gain a sufficient understanding of the offense before Sunday. Whether all three quarterbacks will be active, Garrett said he didn’t know yet.

“We’ll see,” Garrett said. “Our third quarterback is still on an airplane.”

Garrett added that the Cowboys expect Cassel to hit the ground running where picking up the offense is concerned.

“He’s a veteran quarterback, so he needs to learn fast,” Garrett said. “I think, as much as anything else, the big challenge for him is to learn the terminology.”
