Jim Nill Named Finalist for NHL GM of the Year

The Stars finished with the second best record in the NHL last season

Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill has been named one of three finalists for the NHL General Manager of the Year Award, the league announced this week.

Nill joins Washington Capitals Senior Vice President and GM Brian MacLellan and Pittsburgh Penguins executive vice president and GM Jim Rutherford as finalists for the honor.

In his third year with the Stars, Nill saw the team finish with the second best record in the NHL, a Central Division title and the top spot in the Western Conference going into the playoffs. They were beaten by the Blues in seven games in the second round but Nill, for good reason, believes the team is in a great position going forward.

β€œWell, I really believe we've got one of the top cores in the league,” Nill said, per the Dallas Morning News. β€œThe players we have, what they've done, you look at their personal success and the team success that has gone along with it, you look at the age of the core, I believe the Dallas Stars are in a great spot.”
