Jethro Pugh Passes Away at 70

Pugh played defensive end for the Cowboys from 1965 to 1978

Longtime Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Jethro Pugh has passed away of natural causes at the age of 70, the team announced Wednesday.

Pugh played 14 seasons for the Cowboys from 1965 to 1978 and was a member of the “Doomsday Defense” and won two Super Bowls with the team, in 1971 (Super Bowl V) and 1978 (Super Bowl XII). He remains sixth on the franchise’s all-time sack list, with 95.5.

"This is a sad day for Cowboys fans, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Jethro's family,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said in a statement. "He was loved and appreciated by his teammates and Cowboys fans for decades, and his spirit will be felt when our team travels to Green Bay this weekend."
