Romo the Best in the Business in 4th Quarter: Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones is as confident as ever in Tony Romo's abilities come crunch time

The last memory Cowboys fans have of Tony Romo attempting to orchestrate a fourth quarter comeback came two weeks ago against Denver, and the attempt didn’t last long. As in, he threw an interception on the second snap of the drive, after taking a sack on the first. The pick set up the Broncos’ game-winning field goal and, in hindsight, effectively ended the team’s comeback bid.

But loss to Denver aside, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones wouldn’t want anyone else under center when the Cowboys are down late in the game. Jones was asked during an appearance on 105.3-FM The Fan on Thursday--if this Sunday’s game comes down to two minutes with the Cowboys down four and with possession--how he’d feel about the team’s chances.

The owner didn’t mince words in his response.

I’m expecting to win it,” Jones said, via ESPN Dallas. “I hadn’t booked it, but we had ‘em against Denver. And we’ve got a quarterback that’s the best in the business in the fourth quarter. He’s the best. He can make it happen when it’s not there. Other than being ahead with the ball, there’s no one I’d rather have at this time than to have Romo trying to get us down the field in a short period of time.”

The assertion that Romo is “the best in the business” in the fourth quarter will surely draw some scoffs around town, but Jones does have some numbers to back him up: Namely, Romo’s passer rating in the fourth quarter is the highest in NFL history at 101.9.
