For obvious reasons, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones isn’t so sure the team will be able to keep both DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant.
“Is it possible? Yes,” Jones said this week. “But if you just look at it from the standpoint of dollars and cents, it probably doesn’t look reasonable.”
As you might have heard, both Bryant and Murray had a huge 2014. Bryant finished with 88 catches, 1,320 yards and an NFL-high 16 receiving touchdowns. Murray finished with a franchise record 1,845 yards on 392 carries, and 13 rushing touchdowns. Both were named to the Pro Bowl and both were given All-Pro honors for their work.
“At the end of the day you do realize it’s going to be costly to have both those players,” Jones said.
The good news, Jones said, is that the Cowboys are in a better position with respect to the salary cap than they have been in the past few years.
“We’ve got more flexibility,” he said. “And we’re going to learn from the success and the how we’ve made our decisions.”
