Jerry Jones: “Not a Lot of Patience With Where We Are”

Dallas has finished 8-8 in each of the last two seasons

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has spent much of the offseason thus far expressing confidence in his head coach, Jason Garrett. But Jones readily admits that 8-8--Garrett’s record in each of his first two full seasons as head coach--isn’t going to cut the mustard here in Dallas.

“There is a lot of resolve here and not a lot of patience with where we are,” Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. “We’ve got to start knocking on the door.”

As he’s said for most of the offseason, Jones hopes that relieving Garrett of playcalling duties--making him a “walk-around coach”--will ease his load and aid the team in getting over that .500 hump and beyond. If it weren’t for this concern that Garrett was maybe being spread too thin, Jones wouldn’t have an issue with the head coach remaining the playcaller.

“But I don’t want to go 8-8,” Jones said. “If any way that might been preventing us, the demand on [Garrett’s] time, the inclusion on his time of not being able to basically allocate to someone else [the responsibility of] doing the game plan, then let’s don’t do that at the hope of doing better than 8-8.”
