Just how good is Tony Fiammetta?
The Dallas Cowboys claimed the fullback off of waivers, released him and re-signed him in a short span back in September--not an auspicious start, for sure. But since then, he’s become a cog in the Dallas offense, and, if we’re to believe Jerry Jones, the Cowboys best blocking fullback since the days of The Moose.
There is some data, though limited, to support what Jones said. Tim MacMahon over at ESPN Dallas offered the following stats today: Fiammetta has played in two games--in these games, the Cowboys have gained 419 yards on the ground, and averaged seven yards per carry; in the four games he hasn’t played, the team has gained a total of 299 yards and averaged three yards per carry.
"I think he’s the best blocking fullback we’ve had since Daryl Johnston" Jones said in a recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan. "That goes a long way.
"The fullback effectively splits a defense. It lets you block up in there, man up with an extra player that you don’t have when you’re not playing with a true prototype fullback."
