Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that defensive end Anthony Spencer has suffered another setback in his attempts to recover from that nagging knee issue, the second in as many weeks, and will very likely require another surgical procedure and miss the rest of the season.
Spencer underwent arthroscopic knee surgery back in July, but after missing the season opener, he played in the Week Two loss to the Chiefs. He was out once again for Sunday’s victory over the Rams.
“We’ve had another setback,” Jones told 105.3-FM The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News. “Anthony Spencer--we’ve learned late yesterday and this morning--is probably going to have to have some more surgery, which is a real setback.”
Before Jerry broke the news on Tuesday, Spencer expressed some very understandable frustration with his inability to get healthy on Sunday.
“It’s just real frustrating for this to be the same problem,” Spencer told reporters at AT&T Stadium. “But it is what it is. I’m just handling it the best way I can.
“Hopefully it gets better. I felt pretty good during the game a week ago. It’s just I haven’t done that type of work, that much work with it, so it’s just sore from the game, I believe. We’re just going to play it by ear. Hopefully it gets better. If it doesn’t, then I’m just going keep doing what I got to do to get ready for the games," said Spencer.
