Jeremy Mincey Getting Some Looks at DT

Suddenly, the Dallas Cowboys have a little bit of depth at defensive end, and as a result defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is experimenting with Jeremy Mincey at defensive tackle in OTAs.

The veteran Mincey came to the Cowboys last year after spending a season (and going to a Super Bowl) with the Broncos, and led the team in sacks with six while operating mostly from the right defensive end position.

This offseason, the Cowboys drafted Randy Gregory and signed Greg Hardy in free agency. They’re getting back DeMarcus Lawrence, last year’s second round pick, who missed much of his rookie year due to a broken foot but came alive in the playoffs to record two sacks.

In workouts this week, Marinelli had Hardy and Lawrence at the end positions, and Mincey and Tyrone Crawford on the inside.

“We were working a bunch of different combinations [Wednesday], which was great,” Mincey said, per FOX Sports. “Randy Gregory is coming along. Really solid pass rusher. They had me and Mr. Kraken (Hardy) here working together. You know what I mean? A lot of good, man. We’ve got a lot of depth, a lot of players you can trust. I think we’ll make some impactful plays for the Cowboys.”

For now, this remains an experiment, but Mincey is just fine if playing on the inside turns into a regular thing.

“I love taking on guards one-on-one,” he said. “I mean, it’s less running than being at end anyway.”
