Since we’ve been so thoroughly teased by reports that the lockout was coming to an end this summer, only to hear subsequent reports backing off any such optimism, and since it finally looks like a deal might be met soon, no one wants to hear anything that could potentially drive a wedge between the two sides--like this, for example.
NFL general counsel Jeff Pash believes that HGH testing is coming to the league as part of a new collective bargaining agreement, and he said as much to the New York Daily News today. Which would be fine, but this is a highly contentious issue. Players have always been opposed to blood testing, which is the only method of accurately testing for HGH. And we haven’t heard anything to suggest that the players have changed their minds on this issue.
“We expect that we will have testing for HGH. I think that both sides believe that’s important for the integrity of the game and that we should continue to be leaders here,” Pash said, per ProFootballTalk.com. “I think that’s a view that’s strongly held by the players as it by us.”
Again, we sincerely doubt the view is held as strongly by players as it is by the league. But whether it is or not, we don’t care--so long as quotes like this don’t serve as a late roadblock in what looks like the homestretch of the lockout. Fingers crossed.
