JD, Levine Signed to Extensions

Talk about a vote of confidence.

The Texas Rangers signed general manager Jon Daniels and his assistant GM Thad Levine to three-year extensions on Thursday night after one of the worst seasons in franchise history and a three-year postseason drought, unless you count that one game in 2012.

But last season was a sham, and I think we all realize that after an unprecedented year of injuries, and the ownership group must have thought the same thing.

The duo has been working together for nine seasons now, and Daniels is set to tie Tom Grieve as the franchise's longest tenured GM after next season, which would've been Daniels' last on his current deal. The move is big for Levine, who has been a hot GM candidate for a few years now and comes soon after Daniels lost another trusted cohort in A.J. Preller, who is now the San Diego Padres' GM.

Daniels, of course, has taken a lot of heat in recent years, especially with the drama-filled departure of the beloved Nolan Ryan last year.
