Jamie Benn Hoping to Get New Deal Done This Summer

Benn's current deal with the Stars is set to expire after next season

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Bennโ€™s current deal is set to run out at the end of next season, but the Hart Trophy finalist is hoping it never gets to that point. Rather, Benn would prefer to hammer out a new deal with the team over the summer.

"Going into the last year of your contract, you don't want it to be a distraction for your team," Benn said, per Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News. "I'll let Jim (Nill) and my agent try to figure that out."

One of two Starsโ€™ All-Stars last season along with Tyler Seguin, Benn doesnโ€™t foresee any issue with getting a new deal done.

"This is where I want to play, this is where I want to be," Benn said. "I don't think it's going to be a problem."

As for the aforementioned Nill, he mentioned last week that he intended to sit down with Benn to open up the dialogue in the near future.

"I've got to meet with Jamie over the next week or 10 days. Going to start discussing that and then I'll get a hold of his people," Nill said. "It's something we'd like to start up, if it's something we can get done in July, August."
