Irvin Expresses Concern For Dez Bryant

Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin was taken aback by the news of Dez Bryant's arrest

Hall of Famer Michael Irvin has been something of a mentor to Dez Bryant basically since Bryant came into the league back in 2010, wearing Irvin’s (and Drew Pearson’s) old no. 88 jersey. Considering their relationship, Irvin was understandably taken aback by the news of Bryant’s arrest on charges of domestic assault stemming from an altercation with his mother on Saturday.

Irvin discussed the news at length on NFL Network on Tuesday. Reading through Irvin’s thought’s, as compiled by ESPN Dallas's Todd Archer on Tuesday, it’s clear that the Ring of Honor member’s concern for the 23-year-old goes well beyond football.

“To say this is totally out of the realm of possibility, I wouldn’t be totally honest,” Irvin said, via ESPN Dallas. “We know (with) Dez’s background and his upbringing that he may have the proclivity to make bad decisions. I had that proclivity. But to go this distance with it is a bit far.

“I don’t even care to talk about what the Dallas Cowboys must be doing here. I need to know what some counsel is going to tell Dez or what guy he is talking to about this issue. You cannot--and you heard (Bryant’s mother) say she is tired of this, she can’t take it. Obviously it’s so sad because it’s not the first time and there certainly is something going on there. If we care anything about him, the man--forget the football--we need to make sure somebody looks into this.”
