Irvin: Dez Showed Maturity in 2012, “But It's the Beginning of His Journey”

Bryant finished last season with career highs in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns

Michael Irvin was understandably encouraged by what he saw out of the current No. 88, Dez Bryant, down the stretch of 2012. Bryant seemed to mature as the year went on, and finished with career highs in catches with 92, receiving yards with 1,382 and touchdowns with 12.

But Irvin isn’t ready to say that Bryant’s troubles are behind him. The Hall of Fame receiver said this week that the offseason--when Bryant doesn’t have the constant grind of football to keep him busy--will provide a more accurate glimpse at how far Bryant has come in terms of personal growth.

“I love the maturity Dez has shown,”
Irvin said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Not just making the plays, but after he makes the plays, the way he handles it. He goes back to the bench, he sits down, he’s not acting crazy. He knows, ‘I’ve got another series.’

“The beginning of this journey he’s starting, he’s doing well. But it’s the beginning of his journey. And the journey is great. This offseason is the first part of it.”
