How Bisaccia, Eberflus Helped Draw Andrew Gachkar to Dallas

The veteran linebacker played for special teams coach Rich Bisaccia in San Diego and linebackers coach Matt Eberflus in college

There were several reasons veteran linebacker Andrew Gachkar came to Dallas this offseason.

Among the major ones were the presence of a pair of coaches with which Gachkar has history: Linebackers coach Matt Eberflus, who was the defensive coordinator for the Missouri Tigers for two years while Gachkar was there, and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, who was the Chargers’ special teams coordinator in 2011 when Gachkar was drafted and coached him for two seasons there.

“No. 1 was Bisaccia. Having Eberflus here was a good thing,” Gachkar said, per the Dallas Morning News. “My wife’s from Dallas, so that was a big thing. No state tax here, obviously, so that helps. Those were all big factors.”

Just like back in 2011, Gachkar anticipates making a difference on Bisaccia’s special teams units.

“Rich was a big part of drafting me to San Diego,” Gachkar said. “He kind of groomed me there. My first two years in the NFL really was just special teams. After that, I obviously groomed myself along with the coaching staff there to help me become an even better linebacker.

“Now, coming here, it’s a really good fit with Rich. I already know the scheme. He’s really comfortable with me. I’ll be able to give the team help in special teams areas as well as at linebacker.”
