Hindsight: What's David Murphy Up To?

How nice would it be to have some life in the Rangers' struggling offense right now? There are some recent departures who could be helping.

The Texas Rangers' lineup saw quite a bit of turnover this year since last season, and so far this year — a quarter through the season — the results haven't been good. Prince Fielder is struggling, heck, even Adrian Beltre is struggling. The Rangers are near the bottom of the American League in runs scored, and the team sits in fourth place heading into Tuesday's game.

So how good would David Murphy look in this Rangers' lineup? Well, he's putting up numbers comparable to those he had in Texas before last year's career-worst season. Of course, his primary position was left field, and that's been occupied by Shin-Soo Choo this year, who's playing very well.

But Murphy is having success with his new team, as he's hitting .291 with the Cleveland Indians, which would put him third among Rangers regulars in hitting behind Choo and Alex Rios this season. He's hit three homers and driven in 25 runs while posting an .800 OPS.

Murphy was a fan favorite and is surely missed by the Rangers fanbase, but if you're comparing Murphy and Choo, you have to give Jon Daniels & Co. the win with the Choo signing.
