The idea has been floated out there that if the Dallas Cowboys are unable to bring back DeMarco Murray in 2015, a possible replacement could be found in currently-suspended Minnesota Vikings running back and native Texan, Adrian Peterson.
Granted, a lot of chips would have to fall into place before the Cowboys even consider bringing in Peterson--after all, he is still under contract with the Vikings, and he’s yet to be reinstated by the NFL after pleading guilty to misdemeanor reckless assault of a child last year.
But according to former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Herm Edwards, if the Cowboys do have an opportunity to bring Peterson into the fold, they should do it. Edwards explained his thinking in a recent Insider piece on ESPN.com, and said he’d take Peterson, 30, over Murray, 26, any day of the week if he were Dallas.
“That one ain’t even close for me,” Edwards said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Peterson is a tone-setter. You get him back there with that line, with a wide receiver in Dez Bryant, a quarterback in Tony Romo, and a tight end in Jason Witten? That’s a bad sight for the rest of the league.”
