Matt Harrison hasn't pitched in a major-league game since April 6, so there's no question he has some questions entering the 2014 season coming off three surgeries. To project him as the Rangers' No. 2 starter is probably a bit of a pipe dream, at least early on in the season.
It's already been determined that Harrison will likely start the season on the disabled list after suffering a setback early in spring training thanks to a soft mattress in his hotel. On Monday night, Harrison made his spring debut in an "A" game against the Kansas City Royals after throwing in a "B" game against the Royals last week.
Harrison failed to make it out of the second inning after needing just nine pitches to get through the first. He was seen on the telecast missing his spots on several occasions as Geovany Soto called for down and in and got middle away, called for down and away and got up and in, and so on.
"I've definitely got some work to do," Harrison told The Dallas Morning News after the outing, which lasted 1 2/3 and was comprised of 35 pitches.
The hope is that Harrison can be ready to hit the big-league mound by the Rangers' second or third series of the season, against the Tampa Bay Rays and world champion Boston Red Sox, respectively.
