After going through the offseason program, training camp and the preseason as an active member of the Dallas Cowboys roster, defensive end Greg Hardy watched his new team from the sidelines for the first four weeks of the season, as he served his suspension for conduct detrimental to the league.
Frustrating as it might have been for Hardy to just sit and watch, he liked what he saw out of his new teammates on the defensive side of the ball.
“I saw a lot of heart, and that’s the biggest thing for me,” Hardy said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “Guys that want to be there. Guys that want to play. And guys that want to fight. That’s what football is about: hard-nosed, head-to-head combat. I’m looking forward to going out there.”
When Hardy suits up Sunday, it will mark his first game in over a year. He played in Week 1 with the Panthers last season before spending the rest of the year on the Commissioner’s Exempt List as the league investigated the domestic violence incident that ultimately led to the four-game suspension.
But speaking to the media this week, Hardy made it clear he wasn’t interested in talking about anything that wasn’t football.
“I’m thankful for another day to get sacks, man,” Hardy said. “Any day I can wake up and rush the quarterback is an awesome day.”
