Hamilton Set for Rehab Assignment

Josh Hamilton is probably anxiously awaiting his return to the Texas Rangers, which will likely come on the road. But there is a small chance he could make his Rangers debut (Part II) at home late next week, and it'll be interesting to see the fan reaction to him after such a nasty divorce from the fan base when he left to play for the hated Angels after the 2012 season.

The next step in Hamilton's return is a minor-league rehab assignment, and that is reportedly going to come next week when Hamilton joins Triple-A Round Rock. Typically for a position player, a rehab assignment would last only a few games, and if that's the case with Hamilton he could make his debut at home next week against Cleveland.

But in a case like Hamilton's — he hasn't played in a game since the 2014 postseason, when he was awful for the Angels — it might be a deal that could last 10 days or so. If that happens, Hamilton would make his debut with the Rangers in Boston or New York.

Either way, Hamilton's return will be a welcomed sight for the Rangers' lineup, which is actually beginning to turn things around in recent days, especially if he can give them the 20-25 homer power he gave the Angels in his two seasons there.
