As Josh Hamilton ramps up his rehab with Triple-A Round Rock in preparation of beginning his second tenure with the Texas Rangers next week, the veteran slugger took some time recently to talk about the next big thing coming up in the Rangers' system.

Hamilton, who played a handful of games with Double-A Frisco this week, of course shared a field with some of the Rangers' top organizational prospects, including the club's top prospect in elite slugger Joey Gallo.

Hamilton hit in front of Gallo in the Frisco lineup and was on base for a couple of Gallo's prodigious bombs, and the 2010 AL MVP told The Dallas Morning News he liked what he saw from the 22-year-old lefty.

“Big boy, good swing, he’s just a good athlete in general, so I’m excited for him,” Hamilton said. “If he stays healthy and plays the way he’s capable of playing, it’ll be fun to watch.”

Gallo has destroyed Double-A pitching this year after struggling in Frisco last year following his promotion from High-A ball. So far this season, he's hit .326 with a .440 on-base percentage, demonstrating an encouraging grasp of the strike zone, to go with nine doubles, seven home runs and 22 RBIs in just 25 games.
