Charles Haley was an insufferable human being during his playing days, that's a pretty well established fact no matter if you're talking to media members, coaches or even his teammates.
But Haley was undeniably great as a player and still has the all-time record for Super Bowl championships with five — two with the 49ers and then three with the 1990s Dallas Cowboys. When he was brought on board by Jimmy Johnson, he was seen as a missing piece who would put the Cowboys' young defense over the top, and he did just that.
Haley was a force to be reckoned with, finishing his career with just north of 100 career sacks and he brought that nasty, mean edge to the Cowboys defense — an edge he often took off the field with him, too.
Since his playing days ended, Haley has been diagnosed and treated for bipolar disorder, and by several accounts is a much more pleasant human being now, which is good to hear.
He got his punishment from the committee by being forced to wait quite a few years to get his due, but he finally got it and you can't help but feel good for the guy, even if he was one of the bad guys back in the day.
