It seems like since the beginning of time that the Euless Trinity Trojans have been a major football powerhouse in the Metroplex, and it seems just as long ago that they started employing the haka as a way to scare the heck out of their opponents.
Well, guess what? The Trojans and all of their Tongan greatness will once again be the team to beat in District 5-5A despite a recent push by Colleyville Heritage for district supremacy.
But it won't be a walk in the park for Steve Lineweaver's bunch, as the Trojans return just three starters -- two on offense, one on defense -- from last year's squad which went 13-1 and made it to the state quarterfinals.
One of those offensive starters is a big-time sparkplug, however, as running back Tevin Williams comes back after emerging as the go-to back last year, when he rushed for nearly 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Colleyville Heritage appears to be locked into the second spot after a 9-2 finish last year, when they were within a touchdown of the juggernaut Trojans, and the Panthers return nine starters from that team, so things could get interesting when the teams meet.
A dark horse in the district could be Keller Fossil Ridge, a program which enjoyed great success at the 4A level before making the move up to 5A in last year's realignment. They struggled mightily last season, going just 2-8 after a nice playoff run the year before in 4A. Fossil Ridge returns 12 starters from that 2-8 squad, including eight offensive starters.
Offensive MVP: Tevin Williams, RB, Euless Trinity
Defensive MVP: John Miles, DE, Colleyville Heritage
Game of the Year: Justin Northwest at Keller Fossil Ridge, Week 8
