Garrett Sees a Lot to Like in New DT Cedric Thornton

Thornton played five seasons for the Eagles before signing with the Cowboys this month

Dallas Cowboys head coach sees a lot to like in his newest defensive lineman, former Philadelphia Eagles Cedric Thornton.

The Cowboys know Thornton well from his days with Philly, the team with which he came into the league in 2011, and emerged as a starter in 2013. Garrett declared shortly after Thornton’s signing that one of the things Dallas liked most about the former rival player is his versatility, something that should help him along quite a bit in Rod Marinelli’s defensive line rotation.

“We’ve been going against Cedric and that defensive line in Philadelphia for a few years now and he’s just a good football player,” Garrett said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “He’s versatile. You see him align in different spots on their defensive line. They’ve always challenged you a number of different ways. They’ve got a lot of different guys that are good run defenders. They do a really good job affecting the quarterback and the passing game. They use a rotation there on their defensive line, and he’s been a big part of it.

“He plays the right way, he’s productive, he’s active, he’s physical and again we’ve had a chance to go against him a couple times a year so we know him well and we’re lucky to have him on our side.”
