Garrett: Players-Only Workouts Are “A Positive Thing”

Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett was able to mingle with a few of his players this weekend at the Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational in Frisco, due to a rule that allows for such interactions at league-involved charity events. It was the first time that he has done so since April 29, when the lockout was temporarily lifted, allowing players to come to Valley Ranch for a few hours before that NFL was granted a temporary stay.

Garrett told reporters at the event that he was glad the team was holding player-led workouts, but he didn’t know any of the details of the sessions, which began two weeks ago at an undisclosed location around Dallas.

"It doesn't surprise me that they're doing that, given the guys that we have," Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. "It certainly helps that and we don't really know the details of it but we assume they're going out there working out. And I think that's a positive thing."

The team’s voluntary offseason workout program would have began in March, with waves of players coming in and out of Valley Ranch at varying times. Instead, due to the lockout, veterans Tony Romo, Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware have organized the players-only workouts, which began earlier this month.
