Prior to Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys hadn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher this season but then, prior to Sunday they hadn’t faced Adrian Peterson.
Peterson hung 140 yards on the Dallas defense on 25 carries and scored an incredible fourth quarter touchdown--an 11-yard run, the latter half of which saw Peterson literally carrying a couple Cowboys defenders on his back--to give the Vikings a late lead.
Jason Garrett said after this performance that he thought the defense did “a pretty decent job” against Peterson, which says a lot about the level of respect the Cowboys head coach has for last year’s NFL MVP.
“He is a fantastic football player and that’s not a news bulletin,” Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. “We had a chance to coach him in the Pro Bowl I think after the 2009 season and spent a week with him and he is just something else. He’s exactly what you want an NFL player to be. He represents himself as a person so well and he is just awfully good. He’s big, strong, fast, explosive. He breaks tackles. He’s relentless. Since he was probably this high, he’s had a big bull’s eye on his back and he continues to be productive.”
