Garrett: “At This Point,” No Practice Plan in Place for Romo

Tony Romo was limited throughout camp last year as he recovered from back surgery

This time last year, with Tony Romo coming off a surgical procedure to correct a herniated disk in his back, the Dallas Cowboys were handling their franchise quarterback with kid gloves. They put a plan in place that kept Romo from participating in more than two practice sessions in a row in camp, and held onto that plan throughout the 2014 season.

Romo responded by having perhaps the best year of his career, with 34 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 3,705 yards and a league-high 113.2 passer rating, while leading the Cowboys to their first NFC East title and their first playoff win since 2009.

This year, the team is playing it more by ear where Romo is concerned, with no specific practice plan for Romo in place--at least, not yet.

“As training camp goes on we’ll develop that plan based on how he’s feeling, how he’s handling the workload,” head coach Jason Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “You’ll probably see him practice a lot. You’ll probably see him have some off days. There’s nothing structured at this point.”
