Garrett Hopes Timing of Bye Benefits Hardy, McClain

Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy made their debut in Week 5 after being suspended for the first month of the season

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is hoping the timing of the team’s bye week will benefit the suspended-until-recently Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain.

McClain missed most of training camp after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery this offseason, and was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Hardy was suspended, also for the first four games, for conduct detrimental to the league. Both debuted a week ago Sunday against the Patriots, and both got to Tom Brady, with McClain recording one sack and Hardy recording two.

In a stroke of luck, the pair got a week to do whatever they needed to do to recover from their first game action of 2015.

“I think any time you’re coming back from not playing for a little while you want to continue to get yourself acclimated, and those guys work hard,” Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. “They were prepared last week to play that game. But now it gives them a chance to have a good couple of practice days before they get ready for the next week of preparation for the Giants. I thought they handled their work well in the game and they were back out there (Wednesday). Both of those guys had good practices.”
