Garrett Confirms, Zack Martin Moving to Guard

The Cowboys spent the 16th overall pick on Notre Dame's Zack Martin

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has confirmed that the team’s first round pick, Zack Martin, will begin camp at guard. Martin played tackle at Notre Dame, but his size left experts to assume that he’d move to guard in the NFL.

“People believe he can play center--a lot of people argue he can play all five spots on the offensive line,” Garrett told the team’s official website. “Initially we’ll give him a chance to work inside as an offensive guard and see how he holds up there.”

The thought is, he’ll hold up quite well, and take his spot on the right of last year’s top pick, center Travis Frederick. Frederick started all 16 games last year and earned All-Rookie Team honors. Obviously, Martin would like to have a similar impact in his rookie year.

“I’m looking to come in here and compete and I want to come in there and compete from day one,” Martin said. “So obviously I want to come in there and be on the field and help the team win. So, yeah, that’s my goal.”
