Gallo, Teammate Earn Weekly Honors

Joey Gallo has already become a bit of a baseball legend around these parts, and he hasn't even made it past the Double-A level as a professional.

His legend grew recently when he was named the Texas League Player of the Week for July 21-27. He was joined by Frisco teammate Alec Asher, who earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate.

Gallo, 20, slugged his way to the award by batting .357 in eight games (including a doubleheader) and scoring seven runs. He mashed five home runs, adding to his professional baseball-leading total which is now at 36, and he drove in 13 runs.

Asher, 22, made two starts last week, allowing one run in 14 1/3 innings and fanned 11 batters.

Many fans are still clamoring for Gallo's promotion this season, but the Rangers need to hold off on that idea. He's not ready yet, despite what his numbers might tell you, and folks seem to be forgetting he's still just 20 years old.
