Former Players: Under Woicik, Expect Bigger, Stronger, Faster Cowboys

Cowboys’ strength and conditioning coach Mike Woicik’s reputation can be weighed in Super Bowl rings--he has six of them--but his former players are just as convincing when discussing the prowess of the Cowboys’ newest S&C coach, who returns to Valley Ranch this offseason after around 15 years.

Woicik held the same position for Dallas from 1990 to 1996, winning three of the aforementioned rings in the process. In his last gig, S&C coach for the Patriots, he won the latter three.

According to Daryl Johnston and Emmitt Smith, both former pupils of Woicik, the difference in the team will be more than a little palpable.

"I think he's one of the big secrets of the offseason," Johnston said this weekend, per the Dallas Morning News. "They'll be bigger. They'll be faster. They'll be stronger. There will be less injuries. I think it's a huge move. And nobody is going to talk about it much. Only two teams have won three Super Bowls in four years and he was the strength coach for both of them. And I don't think that is by coincidence."

Smith, meanwhile, believes that Woicik’s reputation precedes him as the best strength and conditioning coach in the business--at least, it should.

"If there is a player in that locker room who questions that man's ability to build great football players physically," Smith said, "that player shouldn't even be on the team."
