Jon Kitna isn't even be a starter in the NFL, but according to one highly revered publication, he is the best bargain at the quarterback position in football.
Tom Van Riper of Forbes recently compiled a list of the “Best Quarterbacks for the Buck,” and the Dallas Cowboys’ backup--the only backup on the list, mind you--came in at no. 1.
Kitna started nine games in 2010 after starter Tony Romo went down with a fractured clavicle, and completed nearly 66 percent of his passes for 2,365 yards and 15 touchdowns, while throwing 12 interceptions. He went 4-5 during this run, posting an 88.9 quarterback rating. Per Forbes:
“Given Kitna’s relatively paltry $2 million salary, part of a five-year, $12 contract he signed with Detroit in 2009, no QB in the league gave his club more or the money last year.”
The article lists Baltimore’s Joe Flacco as the second best bargain QB in the league, followed by Denver’s Kyle Orton, Oakland’s Jason Campbell and Tampa Bay’s Josh Freeman. The Eagles’ Michael Vick made the list as well, as did the Patriots’ Tom Brady.
Tony Romo, the Cowboys’ starter, was not a part of the “best quarterbacks for the buck” list.
