As awesome as last season was for Prince Fielder, after he won numerous AL Comeback Player of the Year honors, this season has been exponentially worse.
Fielder started the season in a slump — the exact opposite of 2015 — and has never broken out of it.
There for a while, despite his low batting average, he was driving in runs and led the team in RBIs for a while, but now that has fallen to the wayside in favor of guys like Rougned Odor.
Fielder is currently hitting .190 with two homers and 18 RBIs. He has struck out three times more than he's walked, so even his on-base percentage ain't that great. What's really not great is Fielder's OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of .516. Yikes. That's just awful.
Fielder's numbers weren't helped by a return to his old stomping grounds in Detroit over the weekend when he went 0-for-13 in the three-game set with three strikeouts and no walks.
Before the trip to Detroit, Fielder had hit .278 with four RBIs in his prior 10 games. He also had four doubles in that time, so the Rangers hope when he and the club return home for a six-game homestand this week, he can bust out of the weekend 0-for.
