The story of Wednesday's Rangers game very easily could've been the fact that Prince Fielder's mammoth bomb gave the Rangers a lead they wouldn't relinquish to win the opening series of the season.
Of course, it didn't quite work out that way.
Before the Rangers' bullpen collapsed in the ninth inning, Fielder gave the Rangers a lead with a massive home run to the upper porch in right field — the Rangers' first home run of the season in a series when the Mariners clubbed nearly 10.
Fielder's 437-foot, three-run jack gave the Rangers a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning, seemingly setting up the winning pieces of the Rangers' bullpen to finish the thing.
It wasn't Fielder's only Rangers first this season. If you've already forgotten, he did have the team's one and only hit in Monday's Opening Day win when he blooped an opposite-field single over the shortstop's head to put the Rangers in business against Felix Hernandez.
