After a rollercoaster career with the Texas Rangers, the writing was on the wall this offseason that Scott Feldman would no longer be a Ranger in 2013. That day has come.
Feldman inked a one-year deal worth $6 million plus incentives with the Chicago Cubs Tuesday morning, ending his eight-year run in Texas, the only team he's ever played for.
Feldman will be plugged into the Cubs' rotation, something he's wanted all along and will be in the more pitcher-friendly National League. So long to the days of bouncing back and forth from the rotation to the bullpen, back and back again.
Feldman was a starter for the Rangers from 2008-2010, highlighted by his 2009 season when he went 17-9. He was actually the team's opening day starter in 2010, going seven innings and earning a no-decision. In 2011, he only pitched in 11 games after joining the team after the all-star break after knee surgery. He made two big spot starts down the stretch and was a huge piece of the Rangers' bullpen down the stretch and into the postseason.
2012 was a horribly up-and-down year for Feldman, as he was forced into the rotation because of injury and lost his first six decisions before winning six straight and being named the Rangers Player of the Month in July before going and losing his next five decisions.
Always been a fan of Feldman, it's true. Not to make excuses, but he had some horrible luck in 2012 and caught just about every bad break possible. Was he great? No. But he'll be a serviceable starter for the Cubs and will hope to build some value back up with his one-year deal after earning/stealing over $13 million from the Rangers over the past three years.
