FC Dallas Trades Walker Zimmerman to Los Angeles FC

FCD grabs the No. 1 position in MLS Allocation Ranking

Walker Zimmerman is packing up and heading out west.

FC Dallas has traded the defender to Los Angeles FC in exchange for $250,000 in General Allocation Money, $250,000 in Targeted Allocation Money and the No. 1 position in the Major League Soccer Allocation Ranking. Los Angeles FC also receives FC Dallas’ No. 11 ranking in the MLS Allocation Ranking.

The 24-year old Zimmerman started 18 matches for FC Dallas last season, finishing with a goal and an assist.

He was drafted seventh overall in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Zimmerman had a breakout season in 2016, starting 30 matches and scoring four goals for the 2016 Supporters Shield winners.

β€œWe’d like to thank Walker for his time in Dallas and everything he helped us achieve in the last few years,” Technical Director Fernando Clavijo said. β€œHe has been a big part of the club and we wish him the best going forward at LAFC.”

The allocation process is the mechanism used to determine which MLS Club has first priority to acquire a player listed on the Allocation Ranking List. The list consists of select U.S. Men’s National Team players, elite youth U.S. National Team players and former MLS players returning to MLS after joining a non-MLS club for a transfer fee greater than $500,000.
