Fantasy Land: Studs and Duds, Week 1

A two-time champion in a hardcore keeper league, including some know-it-all media "experts," Adam Boedeker gives his fantasy expertise on a weekly basis.

Stud of the Week

Jonathan Stewart, RB, CAR — There are lots of reasons for this pick. First off, the Panthers play a Jacksonville defense that has been lacking for quite some time in recent years. Secondly, the once-crowded backfield in Carolina is now Stewart's with the departure of DeAngelo Williams. Third, the Panthers lost star receiver Kelvin Benjamin for the season, meaning Cam Newton will have a lot less to work with in the passing game and the team will likely lean on Stewart, who finished 2014 in fashion.

Honorable mention: Tom Brady, NE (vs. PIT); Chris Ivory, NYJ (vs. CLE); Devante Adams, GB (at CHI); Allen Robinson, JAC (vs. CAR).

Dud of the Week

Cam Newton, QB, CAR — It isn't very often we feature two players from the same team in the two different categories, but this is an exception, and it's directly related to Stewart's presence above. The Panthers will lean heavily on the run, likely for much of the year, but especially in Week 1 against a bad Jaguars defense. The Panthers should win this game, and Newton shouldn't have to do much to accomplish that.

Honorable mention: Jay Cutler, CHI (vs. GB); Alfred Morris, WAS (vs. MIA); DeSean Jackson, WAS (vs. MIA); Roddy White, ATL (vs. PHI).
