Jurickson Profar was supposed to replace Ian Kinsler and hold down the second base job for the Texas Rangers for the better part of the next two decades after earning the status as baseball's top prospect a couple of years ago.
That status has since changed, obviously, due to struggles in the bigs and a lost 2014 season in which he never saw a big-league game after suffering a torn muscle in his shoulder.
Yet, when the Rangers announced their contingent for the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday, Profar was not mentioned after there was some thought he could be sent to the fall league to tune up his game after missing his entire age 21 season — a big setback in his development.
The Rangers announced their contingent as catcher Patrick Cantwell and right-handed pitchers Lisalverto Bonilla, Cody Kendall, Josh McElwee and Sam Wolff. Also on the list was outfielder Nick Williams, who was the Rangers' 2012 second-round draft pick and has been hitting pretty well this season between High-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco.
Profar would be in a bit of an odd position in the Fall League, which is usually reserved for young prospects who are a couple of years away from the bigs, at least. Profar is young, but he's already seen part of two seasons in the bigs before missing all of 2014.
All of the players will suit up for the Surprise Saguaros and begin play on Oct. 7
