One of the greatest cornerbacks in Dallas Cowboys history, Everson Walls says he would’ve never been as successful had he not had a great pass rush working with him. That’s not surprising. What is a little more surprising is that Walls says the current front seven isn’t really giving the current secondary a chance.
“If you’re going to be good in the secondary, you have to be good on the defensive line,” Walls said, per the team’s official website, “and that’s just all there is to it.”
As a rookie in 1981, Walls set a single-season franchise record 11 interceptions. That record stands today.
“I lived by pressure,” Walls said. “(Ed) ‘Too Tall’ Jones, Harvey Martin, Randy White, I had plenty of pressure up there. They made me so upset sometimes, they took away my interceptions because they got there so fast…That’s the luxury that I lived with. The Cowboys need to shore up not just their front four, but their front seven.”
