Emmitt Smith Says Cowboys Should Pass on Draft's Best Running Back

I’ve been saying for weeks the Cowboys should draft an Ohio State star with the 4th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. But I want Joey Bosa, not Ezekiel Elliott.

At least I’ve got good company.

The NFL’s all-time leading rusher – better known as Cowboys’ Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith – said recently that he thinks Dallas should pass on a runner.

Feeling confident with the tandem of Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris, Smith said the Cowboys should draft help for its anemic defense.

Not that he doesn’t love the Buckeye back.

“I love him,” Smith said of Elliott at a press conference on Tuesday. “I think he’s a very, very special kind of running back. But do you spend your first-round pick on him or do you get help on holes that you definitely need to fill?”

Like a lot of us, Smith sees a pressing for the Cowboy to strengthen their weakness rather than strengthen their strength.

“You know, you’ve already got two good running backs. It’s like having five cars and saying ‘I’m gonna buy another one.’ I can only drive one at a time.”
