Elvis Wowed by DeShields in the Weight Room

Delino DeShields had a pretty nice rookie season in 2015, eventually settling into an everyday center field role as well as being the Rangers' leadoff hitter. Not too bad for a Rule 5 draft selection the Rangers basically stole from the Houston Astros.

It's a well established fact that DeShields has the genes in his favor, as his father by the same name played a long, successful career in the majors and his sister is currently a star basketball player for the Tennessee Lady Vols. After working out with him, Elvis Andrus is pretty sure DeShields is a freak.

Andrus was on the radio with Ben and Skin on 105.3 The Fan on Monday and was asked what player throughout his career has impressed him the most in the weight room. While you might imagine his answer would be Josh Hamilton or Nelson Cruz or some other slugger, it wasn't.

It was DeShields.

"When I get amazed and when I really get my mind blown is when I see somebody with my body type doing like crazy things," Andrus told Ben and Skin. "Somebody I've actually started training with right now and blows me out is Delino DeShields. He squats way more than anybody."

It's good to hear DeShields has that kind of work ethic in the weight room because it might mean his breakout rookie season might have a good shot at being duplicated or even improved upon in 2016.
