Don't Expect Cowboys to Target Big-Name Free Agents

Last year, the biggest name the Cowboys brought in in free agency was Henry Melton

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones doesn’t sound like a man who intends to make a big splash in free agency this offseason.

I would continue to say shopping in free agency, especially on big-priced players, has not historically been good returns,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas.

This offseason, the Cowboys’ front office have their work cut out for them without going out in search of new pieces, as they’re committed to keeping the core of the team together. The team had 20 free agents-to-be going into the offseason, a class headed up by DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant.

Considering, we don’t really expect the Cowboys to bring in any big, new names through free agency.

“A lot of times you think it’s the player (to make the difference) and it’s usually not,” Jones said. “Usually the ones that are free out there they’re out there free for a reason and you end up overpaying for guys that you probably shouldn’t be paying that kind of money. I think that’s the big question: Is the guy really worth what you’re going to step up to pay?”
