DFW's New Growing Metropolis Amongst Favorites in 3A

Prosper looking to repeat as 3A Division I champs

A year ago when head coach Kent Scott led the Prosper Eagles to their first football state championship in Class 3A Division I, a new DFW powerhouse was made.

The Eagles beat Waco La Vega 17-10 after trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, earning the state title for the decisive underdogs to a traditional power in La Vega.

Now, Scott & Co. are back for more.

The 3A Division I title is up for grabs with many good teams from around the state, most notably perennial powerhouse Abilene Wylie, but Prosper has what it takes to repeat its success from last season, which saw it go 14-1 en route to the title -- returnees.

Though the Eagles lost a lot on the offensive side of the ball, including quarterback Hunter Nix (UTEP), they have a good number of core players back on defense, led by linebackers Drew Miller and Colin Padilla.

The Eagles are in perhaps the best 3A district in Texas, which includes Celina, Argyle and an upstart Sanger program. So that district slate will definitely help prepare the Eagles for a deep postseason run. The deepness of that run will most surely be tested when they likely would face a very athletic, powerful squad in Van in the playoffs.
