Dez Tells Jerry “The Pain is Going Away by the Day”

Dez Bryant won't return for another several weeks at least but he insists he's feeling better every day

Dez Bryant’s foot is feeling better with each passing day, and he’s making sure Jerry Jones knows it.

Jones recalled a recent conversation he had with Bryant about the state of his broken foot and while the Cowboys’ owner didn’t make any bold declarations about when the All-Pro will return, or shout a date from the hilltops, he is clearly feeling fairly optimistic about the recovery process.

We want him keeping in shape and keeping all the ligaments around it in shape,” Jones said, per Todd Archer or ESPN Dallas. “He can. I just had a great visit with him. The pain is going away by the day and that's important. His procedure gives me a lot of confidence that he will be able to have a positive recovery."

Also a cause for some optimism, albeit guarded at this early point, is that Archer points out that Bryant was wearing a walking boot on Tuesday, but not on Wednesday--and once out of the boot, he walked without a limp.

Some folks, as you might have heard, are much less optimistic. The Falcons’ Roddy White has said he’d be surprised if Bryant came back at all this season, and cited Julio Jones’ 2013 foot injury as evidence. Jones himself recently urged Bryant to be patient and get fully healthy before returning, and suggested that he made a mistake himself when he returned too quickly from a 2011 foot injury.

But the Cowboys are sticking to their own plan, confident that their own timetable is the right one. As Archer points out, they have some recent experience in this department, as DeMarcus Lawrence underwent the same surgery in training camp last year, missed eight games and returned without issue.
