Among the earliest encouraging reports to emerge on deadline day Wednesday had Dez Bryant on his way to Valley Ranch with less than an hour until the cut-off to iron out the details on a new, long-term deal. It was the first really positive sign that after a somewhat contentious offseason, everything was going to be alright on the 88 front--and shortly after those reports, the deal was done.
“I smiled the whole way over here--I couldn’t even say nothing but just smile and laugh, because I couldn’t believe it,” Bryant told the team’s official website. “All I could just think about is that it’s a dream--a dream come true. I think the only thing that’s missing is a Super Bowl.”
Michael Irvin opined this week that, without Bryant, the Cowboys wouldn’t finish better than 8-8. With Bryant, their top playmaker, who knows? Their chances are certainly better with him than without him. As for making a return to the Super Bowl the goal going into 2015, Bryant doesn’t believe the Cowboys are far off.
“Now that we’ve got the deal done, I can only imagine what’s fixing to go down this season,” Bryant said. “We’re Super Bowl ready.”
