Dez Bryant Deal Remains Top Priority for Cowboys

The Cowboys gave Bryant the franchise tag this offseason

The only news that we’ve had regarding Dez Bryant lately is that there’s been no news.

But locking up the Pro Bowl receiver a long-term contract remains the top priority for the Dallas Cowboys’ front office, executive vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3-FM The Fan on Tuesday.

“That’s what we’d like to get done, and we have to be patient with that,” Jones said, via the team’s official website. “Those things don’t happen overnight, but when they finally do get traction and legs, then they tend to happen quickly. We’ll continue to work at that and see where we may progress as we go forward.”

Bryant has yet to sign his franchise tender, so he’s not at Valley Ranch for the team’s offseason conditioning program. Instead, he’s working out independently and hoping for that long-term deal.

When the two sides come together on a contract, assuming they do at some point, it’s going to be big. 2014 was Bryant’s best season to date, as he went for 1,320 yards on 88 catches and scored 16 touchdowns, a new franchise record for receiving touchdowns in a season.
